Pictory

Turns articles, scripts or long videos into short clips ready for social media, with automatic captions included.

Pictory is worth it if your work involves content “repurposing”: taking something that already exists (a blog article, a long webinar, a script) and turning it into short video clips ready for social media, with automatic captions included, without editing frame by frame.

The most common use case is taking a long video — a podcast recorded on video, a talk, a class — and letting Pictory identify the most relevant segments to turn into individual clips under a minute long, the format that works best on social media. It can also start directly from text: you paste in an article or script and the tool builds a video with stock footage, voice and images that match the content, no recording required.

In practice

This translates into very concrete workflows: a marketing team that records an hour-long webinar and needs to pull five or six short clips out of it for different platforms, a blog that wants to turn its most-read articles into video without hiring anyone, or a creator who already recorded a long talk and just needs the best three minutes with captions to publish. It saves the most tedious part of repurposing — watching an hour-long video looking for the best moments — though it’s worth reviewing the selection before publishing, since the automatic cut doesn’t always land on the most interesting part.

Plans and pricing (2026)

  • Starter (from USD 25/mo on annual billing, USD 29/mo monthly) — a monthly allowance of video minutes and AI credits built for individual use, with access to a media library, AI voices and brand kits.
  • Professional (from USD 35/mo annual, USD 59/mo monthly) — noticeably more minutes and AI credits than Starter, built for anyone producing content more regularly.
  • Team (from USD 119/mo annual, USD 199/mo monthly) — built for multiple users, with the largest volume of minutes and credits among the fixed plans, plus collaboration features.
  • Enterprise — custom pricing, with minute and credit allocations sized to the organization’s volume.

There are separate paid add-ons (for example, access to premium stock libraries or more realistic third-party AI voices) billed on top of any plan. There’s also a limited-time free trial with full features, though exports carry a watermark.

For this review we tested the two core workflows — generating video from text and cutting clips from an already-recorded long video — evaluating the quality of the automatic captioning and moment selection.

What to know before choosing

The most real limitation is that the result almost never comes out “publish-ready” at 100%: it needs a manual pass on pacing, clip selection, or some text tweaking to feel tailored, especially if the source content is technical or has a lot of context an automatic cut can miss. Minutes and AI credits also get consumed differently depending on the plan, so it’s worth estimating your real monthly volume before choosing between Starter and Professional.

Worth it for teams and creators who repurpose long content on a recurring basis and want to save the manual selection work. If your need is one-off — a single video every once in a while — the free trial or a smaller tool is probably enough.

Pros

  • Turns long text (articles, scripts) into video with almost no manual work
  • Automatically detects the most relevant moments in a long video to cut clips
  • Automatic captions come included and save an extra step

Cons

  • The result usually needs some manual tweaking to feel fully tailored
  • Automatic clip selection doesn't always nail the most interesting part of the video
