monday.com is worth it if your team needs highly customizable boards and already has a rough idea of what process it wants to model: marketing, sales, operations, HR. It’s one of the most flexible work management platforms on the market, letting you build custom views for almost any workflow without relying on rigid templates.

Its AI layer helps draft status summaries, generate automations from natural-language instructions, and prioritize tasks based on the board’s context. The difference from building everything from scratch is that you don’t need to know how to code or write complex rules: you describe what you need in a sentence and the AI builds the automation.

In practice

This shows up in things like: asking the AI to put together a weekly status summary across all of a department’s active projects, without a team lead having to review board by board; generating a new automation (“if a task on this board moves to ‘blocked’, notify the owner on Slack”) just by describing it in a sentence; or using the Gantt view for long-term planning and the Kanban view for day-to-day work, over the same underlying data. It’s also useful for an operations team to build a custom board for a specific process (say, tracking incidents for a large client) instead of relying on a generic template that doesn’t quite fit how that particular team works.

AI usage on monday.com runs on credits purchased alongside seats (they don’t come free with the base price), at roughly USD 0.01 per credit on annual billing or USD 0.0125 on monthly. This replaced the old system of separate AI add-ons: it’s now a single credit pool shared across all of the platform’s AI features. It’s worth calculating expected usage before choosing a plan, since a team using AI heavily can end up paying considerably more than the listed per-seat price.

What to know before choosing

The most real limitation, beyond price, is that every paid plan requires a minimum of 3 seats — so a one- or two-person team pays for seats it won’t use — and starting in 2026 there was roughly an 18% price increase across every tier. Connecting several boards together for cross-board reporting is also more work than with some competitors.

Worth it for mid-sized and large teams that want highly tailored boards and are willing to invest time in setting them up properly. If your team is small or the process you need to model is simple, a tool with a cheaper entry plan and less seat-minimum friction may be a better fit. And if your priority is the AI itself rather than board flexibility, it’s worth comparing the real cost of credits against other project management platforms before deciding, since that’s the part of the price that varies most with actual usage.
