Microsoft 365 Copilot is worth it if your work already lives in Word, Excel and Outlook: instead of a separate chat you copy-paste text into, the AI sits right inside the app you’re using and works with the actual file you have open. That’s what sets it apart from a generic assistant — there’s no need to explain the context, because it already has it.

In practice this shows up most in Excel and Word, where most repetitive office tasks happen all day long: building a formula without googling it, cleaning up a spreadsheet with manually entered data, or drafting a first version of a report from a handful of loose notes.

This shows up in things like: asking Copilot in Excel to build the formula that cross-references two spreadsheets instead of writing it yourself, having it summarize the key points of a long email thread in one paragraph before you reply, or generating a first draft of meeting minutes from the loose notes you took in Word.

Plans and pricing (2026)

• Copilot Business (USD 21 per user/month) — built for small and mid-sized teams, on top of an existing Microsoft 365 plan.
• Copilot Enterprise (USD 30 per user/month) — the same add-on for larger organizations, with volume discounts starting at 10 seats.

In both cases, Copilot is purchased as an add-on to a Microsoft 365 subscription you already have to pay for separately — it isn’t a standalone product. For this review we went through Microsoft’s plan structure and official documentation.

What to know before choosing

The real cost isn’t just the add-on price: if your organization doesn’t already pay for Microsoft 365, you need to add that base cost before reaching the final number. That’s why it’s worth it mainly for teams that already live in Word, Excel and Outlook — if your company uses Google Workspace, this isn’t the path; look at Google’s built-in AI instead.

Worth it for anyone who spends most of the day in Office documents and spreadsheets and wants to skip the step of copy-pasting into a separate chat. If your use is occasional, it probably doesn’t justify the extra cost on top of the Microsoft 365 license.
