AI Email 4.1/5 — our rating

Superhuman

Premium email client on top of Gmail and Outlook that uses AI to draft replies automatically and organize the inbox.

Superhuman is worth it if your job depends on email every single day — sales, founders, executives drowning in their inbox — and you’re willing to pay for a premium subscription in exchange for processing mail much faster. It doesn’t replace Gmail or Outlook: it’s a layer that sits on top of your existing account, so you keep using the same email address you always had.

What sets it apart from a regular email client is that it’s designed entirely around speed: keyboard shortcuts for every possible action, an interface built to keep your hands off the mouse, and AI features that draft replies for you before you even open the message. It’s a niche tool — it doesn’t compete with Gmail on general features, it competes on how much time it saves you if you live in your inbox.

In practice

This translates into a very concrete workflow: you open your inbox and several messages already have a suggested reply from Auto Drafts waiting, ready to review and send in seconds instead of writing from scratch. Keyboard shortcuts let you archive, snooze, tag or reply without letting go of the keyboard, and on the higher plan you can ask the AI (Ask AI) to summarize a long thread or find a specific email using natural language instead of building manual filters. The recent-opens feed shows in real time when a contact opened an email you sent, something sales teams use heavily to know when to follow up without seeming pushy. For a salesperson juggling dozens of active conversations, the HubSpot or Salesforce integration avoids constantly jumping between email and the CRM, and custom auto labels help the inbox organize itself based on sender type or the status of each conversation.

Plans and pricing (2026)

  • Starter (USD 30/mo, USD 25/mo billed annually) — full Superhuman Mail, shared availability, shared conversations and team comments, and most of the AI features.
  • Business (USD 40/mo, USD 33/mo annual) — everything in Starter plus Auto Drafts, Ask AI, custom auto labels, HubSpot and Salesforce integration, and a recent-opens feed.
  • Enterprise (custom pricing) — for larger teams, with terms arranged directly with Superhuman’s sales team.

There’s no free plan beyond an initial trial; it’s a monthly subscription built for someone who has already identified email as a real bottleneck in their day, not for occasional use.

For this review we looked at the plans and pricing published on Superhuman’s official site and help center, paying attention to which AI features stay on Starter and which only unlock on Business — something that isn’t always obvious from the marketing site.

What to know before choosing

The most obvious limitation is price: paying USD 25 to 40 a month for an email client, when Gmail and Outlook are free, only makes sense if the real time saved justifies the expense. On top of that, the most heavily marketed AI features — Auto Drafts and Ask AI — aren’t on the entry plan, so you need to budget for Business directly if that’s what you’re after.

Worth it for anyone who lives in their inbox and can put a number on the time it saves each week; for someone with a moderate email volume, it’s hard to justify the cost over a free email client with a cheaper AI extension bolted on. It’s also worth factoring in the adoption curve of the keyboard shortcuts: the first few weeks are actually slower than a traditional client until the shortcuts become automatic, so the real time savings only show up after that learning period.

Pros

  • Speed and keyboard shortcuts highly praised by users, built to keep your hands off the mouse
  • Auto Drafts writes replies before you even open the email
  • Integrates with CRMs like HubSpot and Salesforce on the Business plan

Cons

  • High price compared to traditional email clients, which are usually free
  • The strongest AI features (Auto Drafts, Ask AI) are reserved for the Business plan, not the entry one
