Asana is worth it if your team prioritizes ease of adoption over extreme customization: it’s one of the easiest project management tools to learn, compared to more “do-everything” options, which makes it popular with marketing and creative teams that need to get organized fast without lengthy training.

Its AI layer, AI Studio, automates coordination workflows — for example, automatically flagging when a task is running late, or generating a project status summary — without someone having to build it manually every week. That’s what sets it apart from jotting down status by hand in a weekly meeting: the summary is generated on its own, from the data already sitting in the projects.

In practice

This shows up in things like: an AI Studio flow that automatically puts together a status summary every Friday to send to the client, without a project manager having to draft it from scratch; an automation that reassigns a task if the person responsible hasn’t updated it within a set number of days; or using the different views (timeline for planning, board for day-to-day work) over the same set of tasks, without duplicating information across tools. It’s also common to set it up so that when a task is created with certain keywords in the title, it’s automatically assigned to the right team and gets the custom fields that type of work needs, without someone having to configure each task by hand.

Plans and pricing (2026)

• Personal (free) — built for individual use or very small teams (2-user cap on new accounts), with the basic views and no AI.
• Starter (from USD 10.99 per user/mo, billed annually; USD 13.49 monthly) — timeline, reporting, unlimited automations, forms and custom fields, plus a monthly allotment of roughly 50,000 AI Studio credits.
• Advanced (from USD 24.99 per user/mo, billed annually; USD 30.49 monthly) — adds unlimited portfolios, goal tracking, workload management, approvals, time tracking, and Salesforce and Tableau integrations, with a larger AI credit allotment (around 75,000 per month).
• Enterprise and Enterprise+ (roughly USD 35 and USD 45 per user/mo respectively, sales-quoted) — advanced admin controls and up to 200,000 monthly AI credits.

If a plan’s credit allotment falls short, there’s an add-on for extra credits (AI Studio Plus) sold separately, plus a higher annual-only tier for very heavy usage.

What to know before choosing

The most real limitation is the price jump between tiers: moving from Starter to Advanced nearly triples the per-user cost, and features many teams take for granted — like time tracking or workload management — are locked behind that tier. AI Studio’s credits also have a monthly cap: a team that automates a lot may need to buy extra credits before the month is over.

Worth it for mid-sized teams that prioritize simplicity over extreme customization and don’t need the more advanced time-tracking or portfolio features from day one. If your team is small and AI usage will be occasional, the Starter plan is enough without needing to jump to Advanced. And if what you need is very fine-grained control over complex processes with lots of task dependencies, it’s worth comparing against tools built specifically for that — Asana prioritizes ease of use over deep customization.
